Who are these "desis" that you guys keep talking about anyway? Does it refer to a particular state in India, or just a general reference to Indian nationals? My understanding was that this was some kind of cast.

Just posting my stamping experience at Vancouver.
My H1B visa renewal interview was on Feb 27th 2008. I recieved my passport on Feb 29th 2008.
The consulate called me on the 29th to tell me it was ready for pick-up.
Hello Aloo,
Is there any why we can check our records to PIMS. Or is there any way we can request to update our records in PIMS to any of the agencies.
Thanks

Returned to the US on AP with family on 11/17. Working on EAD, used AC21 to switch employers. Presented Passports, I-94 forms and both copies of APs to officer at primary inspection. Officer inspected documents, took fingerprints and pics, and requested escort to take us to secondary inspection. Asked to wait at secondary inspection while officer checked documents. Officer then requested us to approach him and asked who the primary applicant was. Then he asked who the petitioner of my EB application was, and if I was working for them. I answered I had moved to diff employer in same position earlier this year. He then asked how long I had worked for the petitioning employer. He then stamped our APs, I-94s and passports with the parole stamp, returned docs to us (including both copies of the APs), and asked us to collect our luggage and proceed through customs. No further questions were asked or further docs requested. Overall process took 20-30 minutes.
Appreciate the info. Thanks.

Guys:
I am posting this question on behalf of my friend.
My friend was laid off and his company is going to cancel his H1 soon. His company is giving a return ticket ONLY for him. They are refusing to give a return ticket for his spouse and son. Can somebody point me to to some USCIS H1 rule that would state that the h1 sponsoring company is responsible to pay return ticket for family, who is on h4 visa sponsored by the company. Or advise if the company's statement is true??
A quick response would be appreciated.
Check LCA application form: You can find that emplooyer is responsible for employee rerutn ticket.
Check (i mean recall) H4 application submitted for H4 Visa: Here your friend might recall that he pledged to visa officer that he would support his wife./son.

:( My case status shows case closed. Is anybody facing the same problem?
Hi abd,
Have your lawyer cotact DOL. My lawyer sent them an email last time and they responded the same day with a screen capture. If they truly say that it is closed, then there is a timeperiod during whcih you can appeal to have it reinstated as long as they closed the case erronously.
Questions:
1) Did you get the 45 day letter?
2) Did you respond to the 45 day letter on time?
If there are no issues surrounding the 45 day letter then I would say the case was closed erronously which has happened to some people.

Immigration Visa Attorney Blog Has Just Posted the Following:
Los Angeles is full of immigrants. California is a home to people from many nations. The immigration law firm of Fong & Chun in Hollywood has clients from everywhere, and we get calls and inquiries from people all over the world. With all the talk about illegal aliens, unemployment, and the new "breathing-while-brown" law in Arizona, I keep getting one big question.
"WHEN will a comprehensive immigration law pass?"
I wish I could say that I am so god-like that I am always right. Most attorneys don't like being wrong -- and our clients do not like it, either, to tell the truth. If someone asked me six months ago whether immigration reform would pass, I would have said, "I think a new immigration law -- perhaps including a legalization program, the DREAM Act for young people who were brought to the USA by their parents, and a program to allow same-sex couples to immigrate on a similar basis to married couples -- will pass by the end of 2010."
I must confess that the political mess in Washington and the "culture of no" so internalized in the Republican Party has made the passage of comprehensive immigration reform unlikely by the end of the year. Could it happen? Yes. Is it likely? I don't think so.
I realize that this is a grave disappointment to immigrants, many of whom want to legalize and come out of the shadows, want to work legally and pay taxes, want to petition their relatives so that their families can be united. Unfortunately, I can only urge all US citizens and Legal Permanent Residents to write -- don't call, don't e-mail -- to their Congressperson and to their two US Senators to urge the passage of comprehensive immigration reform soon.
And cross your fingers. --jcf

I am not kidding. I am not trying to be audacious. This isnt over the top.
Actually, if you read the article below, you will
think that the USCIS should pay us for accepting their
Green-cards and agreeing to stay here in USA. Sounds
Crazy? It wont after you read this.(from Yahoo)
"And let's not forget about immigrants. The workers
who move to the U.S. each year bring with them a
mother lode of education and skills -- human capital
-- for free. One celebrated example is Jonathan Ive,
the man who designed the iPod and iMac. Ive was born
in England and educated at Newcastle Polytechnic
University of Northumbria before joining Apple
Computer Inc. in California in 1992.
Ive is not unique. Most of the workers who immigrate
to the U.S. each year have at least a high school
diploma, while about a third have a college education
or better. Since it costs, on average, roughly
$100,000 to provide 12 years of elementary and
secondary education, and another $100,000 to pay for a
college degree, immigrants are providing a subsidy of
at least $50 billion annually to the U.S. economy in
free human capital. Alternatively, valuing their
contribution to the economy by the total wages they
expect to earn during their lifetime would put the
value of the human capital of new immigrants closer to
$200 billion per year. Either the low or high estimate
would make the current account deficit look smaller."

This is true. I read somewhere many years ago that IITs in India spend atleast 20 to 30 thousand dollars for each student that graduates with B.Tech. 75% of IIT grads are here in USA. Its India's loss. And USA's gain. And yet, we have nonsense like backlogs and expiring fingerprints.

i sent an email today and got a reply that its taking 20 working days to process passports.
The mail says i will get the new one by this month end.
Is it good to rely on this mail?
Thanks
I had also got the same reply from them (20 working days). It took them about 5 calendar weeks to process my application (I sent in my app on Dec 27 and received the passport on Feb 5th). Hope this helps.

I did my MS Comp Science from US.
The International center there makes a massive pain in CPT
regarding the clause "CPT has to be part of your education"
MBA in Finance area elective will help in long run.
Anyway if you go to India (not an impossible outcome given the greencard situation) without an MBA and just an MS, you will be severely handicapped
professionally. India management culture wants an "MBA". Without that career growth is
exremely slow. It will many years of experience to reach teamlead position in an IT company but with 2 to 3 years after MBA you can get that position.
The glass ceiling is very low in India without an MBA.
India produces massive number of Comp science Graduates and salaries are low.
You need an MBA in India for career growth.
They wont value ur MS. If you cant afford an expensive MBA do an cheaper one in US or Canada (Ryerson in Toronto or York univ).
Canada one you can apply for PR and once you get Canadian citizenship, you dont need to worry about H1B as ou can work in TN1 visa
I agree with your view. Indian companies require MBA for better career growth and it might be worthwhile to finish it off from cheaper university. Unless ofcourse you in niche field and your employer in India really wants to hire you. They will pay premium for it.
But then again original poster never mentioned that he wants to go back to India.

urwelcome,
I am still waiting. I have called customer support and they told me the same reason inskrish said.
I have told about my recent bio metrics and the CSR said she will check that and if she finds the data then she will order the card otherwise will send me a new bio metrics notice. So, I am waiting.
Also, another one CSR said my case is still pending for final decision. But I got the welcome notice and it says my application approved. So, I am more confused and waiting with my Weclome Notice and Wife Apporval notice.

Yes - I have missed $1100 one on Monday and it wen to 1600 yesterday.
It was really worth waiting - I got it today at $645.
Even after purchase could not believe it untill I got it confirmed from BA site.
Hope the same worth waiting principle will come true in GC too....

Some paras from "No" to Immigrant Bashing" (http://www.numbersusa.com/about/nobashing.html) posted at NumbersUsa.
Nothing about this website should be construed as advocating hostile actions or feelings toward immigrant Americans. (Even illegal aliens deserve humane treatment as they are detected, detained and deported.)
It IS immigrant bashing, however, to ascribe those bad characteristics to whole groups of people based on their ethnicity or foreign-born status. All of us should be careful of the language we use so as not to inadvertently appear to be making such negative generalizations.
Not only is it ethically wrong to engage in such stereotyping, it is tactically short-sighted. There is much to suggest that most immigrants already among us would support reductions in immigration numbers. The reasons are not surprising. Virtually any reduction designed to help native-born Americans would be even more beneficial to foreign-born Americans. That is why so many immigrants are supporters of NumbersUSA.com.
