This would be a point to add to the IV agenda on Sept 17/18:
To counter the abject inefficiency (for eg. the purported FIFO USCIS "system" that simply DOES NOT WORK) and the lack of transparency and accountability at USCIS, computer scientists and engineers from the highly skilled immigrant community should develop a tracking system for USCIS and DOS instead.

Since the world is going to end in 2012, the year 2013 won't need any spillovers.
Actually you are wrong! Since the world will end in Dec (to be precise 21st Dec) 2012, USCIS would have already started their FY 2013. So we WILL need to have heated debates, discussions and name calling for 2013. :)

Hi
I am working in University in US and my I-140 (EB-2 Sch-A) is approved and my I-485 is pending. I have H-1B approved from March-06 but yet not stamped.
I am planing to Go to India some time next summer.
But before that I am planing to go to MEXICO ( MATAMOROS) for H-1B and
H-4 stamping for my family.
Do I need to carry any extra documents apart from those needed for H-1 B stamping?
DO I need to Get Advance parole before going to mexico for H-1B stamping?
Does the my going out of country with pending I-485 without taking AP will affect pending application of I-485?
Your experienced advise will help me a lot.

Some IV members are really doing excellent job on a personal level to bring attention in the media...
Jennifer Ludden is one of the Senior Reporters of National Public Radio and she reports on issues related to Immigration. Her report gets relayed across all the NPR affiliates in the nation and has a huge following. In the early days of IV, she had done an indepth interview of logiclife that you can find in the IV in the news section of the portal.

We Have A LOT to be accomplished in TEXAS districts. We need at least 1000 members in each of our 32 districts. WE NEED YOUR HELP!! You can be a passive member, who is willing to send an email when an action item comes up.
Please take this first step and join. Those who are already IN are all folks just like you.
Join the state chapter: http://www.yahoogroups.com/group/texasiv
Immigrants (atleast legal immigrants) are concentrated probably concentrated in about 11-13 districts (6 for houston area, 5 for dallas, 1-2 for austin/san antonio). How are we going to represent all the 32 districts? This is for Texas. How about other states. I understand the requirement to be a grassroots organization. Maybe I just doubt the feasibility.

1. For a new car your best financing option is direct financing from car company. Like American Honda Financial Corp or Toyota Financial Services. No banks can match interest rates they offer. Right now you can have any Toyota for 0% for 60 moths or a Honda for a 1.9% APR for 36 months or a Mazda for 0% for 60 months. These are simply the best deals in terms of financing.
2. Generally vendor financing is available for most people including new immigrants/students as long as they have a good credit history. I think you have a good chance of approval. In fact you can get approved online, print the certificate and buy your car at the dealer, without dealer running the credit check for you. These loans are only available for new cars.

Toyota Financial Services: Credit Application (http://www.toyotafinancial.com/consumer/tfs.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pg_CreditApplication)
3. If for some reason you can't qualify for vendor financing, you should go for credit union auto loan. Their interest rates are always higher than vendor financing for the obvious reason that their only incentive is interest rates but not the actual sale of the vehicle. You can get 5 to 7% APR for these. These loans are available for used cars as well as new cars.
4. You should never ever go for dealer financing. These are marked up auto loans on which dealer makes money and sell the loan to some bank eventually. These are generally 10 to 15% APR.
Good luck. Buying a new vehicle is generally fun as you get to do a lot of research and test drive many cars before you pick the final one. Use Internet to get the quotes and NEVER give your cell number to the dealers.

Vendor financing is many-a-times paired directly or indirectly with some for of other incentive if you did not use the financing. examples:
1. Toyota was running an offer of either $2500 cash back or 0% finacing just a few weeks ago. $2500 cash back would almost always be a better deal (as compared to how much money you'd save in reduced interest) in this case.
2. When I purchased my car - I heard in internet forums that some vendor financed cars earn less cashback for the dealer (this is an underhanded way by the car companies to obfuscate the true dealer cost of a car). bottomline: dealers will be less motivated to negotiate and give you a good deal if you use vendor financing.
So I like keeping the financing separate from the price negotiation. I have a "fixed-rate" car loan with DCU which started at 6.95% interest. As my credit history got thicker - I started qualifying for better rates and a simple phone call to DCU would bump my rate DOWN without a credit pull (they pre-authorize you for certain rate based on a quarterly soft-pull). My current interest rate on that loan is 4.45%.
Some of the non-profit credit unions are amazing. Try them out! With them you won't have to worry about fine print gotchas and all.
It's besides the point - but some of the other non-profits I have dealt with in the insurance industry are also amazing. e.g. BCBS was way better (albait a little slower) than my current for-profit health insurance privider. Same goes with my current car insurance company (Amica) vs my old on (Geico).
In any case - buying a depreciating asset (like a car) with a loan is stupid. And yes - I was stupid when I did that.

Part of the problem that I caused -- and didn't realize when I posted.. Is that these were profiled Adobe RGB, so they were a bit off color-wise when I saved out for the web. My apologies..
You are going to have more contrast in an arena like that with available light -- at least it seems like to me. There is enough latitude to adjust with though in the shots. In the fieldhouse here in Indianapolis, you are shooting 1/500, 2.8, at 800 ISO. Normally I've shot with a custom WB of 3900k in the past when I've shot games there, but I left things on AWB this time around, mostly because I forgot (had two stories I was working on that night -- the other was video.)
I've just found that I've tried to shoot professional level basketball with a 10D, 20D, and 1D bodies and it's just a signifigant difference in AF speed.
Another thing that bothers me in a 20D/1D comparision in a shooting enviroment as such -- is that the focal multiplier bugs me. On close action, I shoot with both eyes open and at 70mm, it's annoying on a 20D and not very noticeable on the 1D the difference in distance from eye to eye.. It's kind of hard to explain. It's always a good idea to have eyes open so you know what's going on.. :-) I had Brevin Knight of the Bobcats, crash between me and another photographer on Friday night. I learned last year in a similar crash.. :-)
Anyways.. I've beat myself up in the past trying to accomodate for the AF on those bodies and hating my results.. I also admit that I don't shoot basketball often enough to consider myself good, but I certainly can nail enough shots in a game for publication.

Probably the first state to have rediculous laws is Texas. My brother, H1 was questioned at DMV Atlanta for legitimate documents for an hour. crazy people, but what does one do but keep moving. Laws can slow progress, but not human dreams right?

Yeah. Your lawyer is squeezing you too much .. My lawyer does not charge anything for asking question but yeah, he is a little bit lethargic too in answering my question. Since you are already in 485 stage, either represent your case or change the lawyer by sending G-28 form.

Reading b/w the lines: Just forget it.
If it happens, it'll be a miracle.
Presidential election 2008 political maneuvering has started too early this year. If they were thinking of national interests over politics, it would have been possible. It's all about elections and political games now.
