Well, I am surprised as to why ANY one would write anything to a house member for rights of NON-citizens 3 weeks prior to an election! On top of it, Pete is a liberal union supporting democrat for whom H1B workers are an anthema. It is the republicans who would be concerned if US businesses were put at a disadvantage compared to its competitors not the Democrats.
I would not write about anything to any house member at this time. Their only aim is to get elected and only the interests of those have a vote will matter now, not increasing quota for H1B visas.

if your brother has already paid his fees in IIM make sure he takes that fee recpt with him to show the officer. Tell him to mention that he is looking at spending some time with his whole family together and getting a nice vacation before starting to slog for the next 2 years.
If your brother has any assets in his name like house, car or any stocks, etc then take those docs along to show the consular officer. The consular officer merely needs to be satisfied that he will come back after his trip and not stay back. Expect questions like why did you choose IIM and not a US University, etc and be prepared for a good answer.
In most cases, when a consular officer sees someone who is meritorious they are usually very courteous.
You make a good point of making sure the fee receipt or admission information is taken to the US consulate. The key is to somehow prove that he is not settling down in US.
My 2 cents....I do not think it is wise to say all the family members are in US unless asked. Because that will only make the counseller feel that he may settle down in US. The best advise i can give is be yourself. Answer to the point. Be presentable and greet when you meet. Definately mention about the admissions at IIM.

Thanks. Basically I am looking for consulting firms (does not matter if they are Desi or non-Desi) that will sponsor H1B. Currently I am in H4.
If you are trying to get into the h1b stream - you will be subject to cap, if you have a US Master's your chances are better otherwise if you want your petition to be considered for the lucky draw after the blackout, your petition has to reach early morning on April 1st.

Unless I'm missing something, A number is just your alien identification number. It is assigned at a certain time in the process and will stick with you up until you get your citizenship. You'll have that number on your green card and on all other related documents.

Hello,
Well the Secure Fence Act was introduced and passed in the House, the SKIL bill is still in limbo.
My question is simple- what is our action plan for getting our provisions in and helping the bills move along?
I am a firm believer in IV and I believe that they are working behind the scenes to get our goals in.I have raised this point before too and am raising it again, a periodic update / affirmation without revealing too much details is all we are looking for.
Also, we have quite a few members now, dont we think we can accomplish more by energizing and ensuring all the members actively do some work to reduce the burden on the core team?
What is the approach that QGA is suggesting we follow? Is the secure fence act a feasible option to introduce our goals in? (Maybe as a Senate ammendment) Since both House and Senate will have to pass it (to look strong in front of the election going public), maybe we can use that to our advantage.These are my thoughts and maybe I am wrong but let us not let opportunities like these go waste, lets investigate and work on all avenues which seem likely.
Again, let me stress I do not wish to cast any doubts on the skills/hardwork that the core team is doing but if we believe our strength lies in using the entire teams efforts then lets start doing that and stop relying only on the core team.

The document that you are referring to is called "Advance Parole" and not "Advance Payrole".
Anybody Travelled with only Advance Payrole through Frankfurt recently please post ?
where they will check for transit visa in usa while boarding or in frankfurt or in india while return ?
My nationality is Indian. Presently i am residing in USA . I have " Advance Payrole Document " . I am planning to travel in this February 2011 from " Atlanta -> Frankfurt -> India(Hyderabad) " and return is in May 2011 from " India(Hyderabad) -> Frankfurt -> Atlanta " in lufthansa airways.
So shall i go for this round trip with a valid " Advance Payrole Document " only ? or i need to have " Air Transit Visa ? If i need Air transit Visa could you please let me know how to apply and what documents i need to submit .
please help already buyed tickets from lufthansa website. non refundable ticket. before that one time i cancelled ticket. airport transit visa shall we apply by post/mail ? in person cant go because very far totally 30 hors drive that too with infant driving not possible . please help ?

Assuming a person on H1 gets married abroad and gets his wife on H-4 (H-1 dependent), and the person on H-1 gets green card 6 to 7 months after marriage, where does that leave the H-4 based wife?
Given that most of the members have already applied for I-485 and also given that a newly married cannot apply for derivative I-485 as soon as he/she lands here - is that a loophole or I missed something?

Guys - They know their system is f'ked up. They dont want to change it ( anology is having illegal immigrants here to clean toilets and wash vessels ). If they clean it up, how will they get revenue and how do they maintain their employment standard.
Come on how many of you actually have felt the job you do is very simple. Almost everyone. Do you really think they cant do it here. They want it that way so they can enjoy their weekends and more.
This applies pretty much to every organisation over here. Pretty amazing actually. Got to give it to them.

I am guessing you are planning to get married in Russia and applying for her H4 visa in Russia since she is currently not in the US. If she were to be in the US as a non-immigrant you would have applied for a change of status to H4 in the US.
As for the "green card" filing - you are correct - it takes more time for Adjustment of Status (last step in the process) if your country of birth is India. However, labor certification and I-140 (Step 1 and 2 respectively) has no bearing on the country of birth. When you get to the last step you can "interfile" and claim chargeability to Russia instead of India.

I told my lawyer to apply. He applied through postal mail. My mind has just stopped working and i am getting all worked up due to this unecessary stress.....Jerrome what FAX procedure are you advising?
You can work w/o EAD as long as you have receipt notice. Inform your employer and provide receipt.
Let's put an end to this discussion as i have been working the same way and work for one of the top 3 banks here. I verified this not only with USCIS but also with the legal dept. of the Bank, they did get back to me saying it was ok to work with EAD receipt.
Please don't complicate straightforward laws into red tapism..
Stop whining and enjoy life..GC/EAD does not get you into heaven with 72 virgins...:D:D
