Summit participants will get information and identify legislative priorities in areas such as employment, border protection, homeland security and family re-unification. Their goal is to establish ``common commitments to equal treatment and due process for all immigrants.''
Several Miami-Dade County Commissioners are supporting the effort, as well as immigration advocates for the area's Hispanic and Haitian communities.

If he gets H4, stays out of U.S. fro 1 year and again gets a fresh H1 with the same company he should be able to use his old GC efforts, isn't it?
H4 can be attained beyond the 6-contigous years of H/L/O, as long as the primary H1 driving the H4 is within the 6-contigous year rule that you mentioned above..
H4 will continue to extend no matter what as long as the primary H1 keeps extending within the framework of laws...
In this case, her husband CAN get a H4, even after exhuasting his 6 contigous years of H/L/O (with/without having his own labor pending for more than 365 days)...only catch is that once he moves to H4 all his pending GC efforts are in vain...he will never be able to get back to H1 without moving out for 1 year, and then restarting the whole GC process all over again...

So we have modified the registration page and the member profile page to include three new fields - Your current Green Card Processing Stage, Your Priority Date and the company where you are working(Optional). I would call USCIS offices. Lots of conflicting advice, rather be safe than sorry. Sorry i don't know the right answer for you.

We got our EAD cards today in the mail :). Case status shows "Cards ordered". Did not recieve approval sent but still got EADs. Details in signature.

Hi,
We files for our I131 on 7th Oct, 2007. Yet to receive anything on them. My wife needs to travel to India end of this month. She needs her AP since she is on adjustment of status right now. We had filed for a service request on 7th Jan at Nebraska Service Center. Got an email from them on 8th asking for supporting documentation. We faxed the medical certificate for my wife's mother on 8th Jan.
Now NSC customer service is saying that we need to wait for further decision. Spoke with our local Infopass office today and as per them we should get something in 3-4 weeks. They gave us an option of getting new AP at local infopass office by filing new fees all over again.
Has anyone on this group faced similar issues? How do we go about getting approval once we file for expedited request? I though once we open a new SR, we should get something back within 5 business days? Any help would be appreciated.

My mother-in-law is in US on tourist visa. She will be completing 6months on Dec 28. I need to keep her here for another 6 months or so. If she goes back to India before Dec 28 and comes back again after 2 weeks will that be OK? What is the rule for reentry. FYI she has a valid multiple entry visa. :confused:

Once awarded, greencard status is not "renewed" (unless you have the conditional "by marriage" greencard, which clearly is not the case here). Greencard status is indefinite. The actual card does have to be renewed, but you don't go through the whole process again. I.E. your card expires, your status doesn't.
For arguments sake, I'm not counting abandonment of greencard status (i.e. leaving the US) or doing things that would revoke status (like committing a felony or something like that)
As far as I know, nowhere in the Naturalization process does it say anything about employment history

For all those who favor renewing your H-1B and not using EAD while 485 is pending with the intent that you can fall back on H-1B in case something goes wrong to AOS, I have the following question -
Lets say you are in the following situation -
I-485 pending, I-140 approved, have valid EAD/AP, you are still using H-1B as work authorization (form I-9), H-1B period is beyond 6 years.
Given this situation, I have heard a from many sources, including lawyers, that it is better to keep renewing H-1B. In case something goes wrong with AOS, you can go back on H-1B.
Now my question is this -
Lets say AOS is denied. What happens to your H-1B at this point? The extension beyond 6th year is based on a pending AOS. If the underlying AOS is no longer pending, is H-1B really valid?
